Two-wheeler fires make the news for a reason: a conventional lithium-ion pack sits under the rider, gets charged in a hallway or a stairwell overnight, and contains a flammable liquid electrolyte. Solid-state batteries for electric motorcycles and e-bikes remove that liquid, and with it the main thermal-runaway path. Here is what that means in practice for a 48V, 60V or 72V pack.

The safety case, specifically

A solid electrolyte is non-combustible. In abuse testing our 30Ah solid-state cells pass puncture and cutting at 100% non-flammable and non-explosive — no liquid leakage, no fire, no smoke, no explosion — and they do not swell or vent during high-temperature storage the way conventional liquid pouch cells do. For a vehicle parked in the sun, charged indoors and subject to road vibration and the occasional impact, that behaviour is the whole argument.

Charging and swap models

Solid-state cells support a full charge within 10 minutes. That changes what business models are viable. A rental or delivery fleet no longer needs a pack per rider plus spares on a slow charge cycle; a battery swap cabinet can cycle packs far faster, which improves the return on every cabinet installed.

Cold weather and range

Conventional lithium-ion loses a large share of usable capacity below freezing, which is why winter range collapses on e-bikes in cold climates. Solid-state cells operate across a much wider band — from -80°C to +140°C — so seasonal range loss is far less severe and riders get consistent performance year-round.

Packs are built from 5Ah to 50Ah solid-state cells, with the 30Ah medium-nickel ternary cell designed to meet the latest two-wheeler standards. Capacity, housing, connector and branding are configurable per platform.

What the BMS has to do

A solid-state pack still needs proper management. Ours ships with high-precision state-of-charge calculation, dual IC + fuse protection, over-voltage, over-current, short-circuit and over-temperature protection, cell balancing and pre-charge, with optional RS485, CAN, MODBUS and UART for fleet telematics and swap-cabinet integration. UN38.3 certified, UL2054 optional.
